YOU KNOW,
YOU GOT TO LET IT GROW As with most things, it's all worked out for the best. Thanks to Lullatone of Japan for the music and Joe Lutton of New York City for the production!
This limited edition collaborative show between Sara and Ayumi will feature earthenware dinosaur pottery with silver decals and the fabulous limited edition silkscreen postcard shown above.
Obamaware was a fundraiser that included the work of 27 nationally known ceramic artists who made Obama-themed work specifically for this event. Put together in just five weeks, the three day auction held just before the election at the end of October 2008, raised $10,843.54 for the Obama/Biden campaign and redefined how powerful a grassroots art campaign could be. Thank you all for your amazing support in making it a huge success!!
Sat, June 20th-Back at home now, starting to think about the studio, after I get a bit of quiet time this weekend. We all worked our tails off, making and talking late into the night and then getting up early to pack in another day of exercises, discussions, slide shows, and lots of pottery making. Happily, the class was amazingly open, giving, and hard working, which made for a great dynamic between us all. I feel lucky to have had such a lovely group with time to get to know them a bit. Thanks also to Penland for treating us all so well.
I'm a studio
potter and ceramic artist who works in the Hudson Valley of New
York making functional, handmade pottery for use in kitchens, offices,
and cars everywhere. The pots are distinctly handmade, where idiosyncrasies
and imperfections are celebrated as evidence of human vulnerabilities
and foibles. I believe that intuition often trumps calculated planning
in making a comforting and meaningful functional pot. My drawing
mixes Japanese and American folk traditions with an appreciation
for contemporary images. While I spend most of my time in the studio
making pottery, I also teach workshops across the country at schools
and arts organizations such as the Archie Bray Foundation, Haystack
Mountain School of Craft, Greenwich House Pottery, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, the Northern Clay Center and the International Ceramic Research Center. My studio
is open for visits by appointment.
